As if by magic, scooter camps are popping up everywhere this year! I think it's a sign that our sport is growing in popularity and becoming more widely accepted, which is a great for everyone involved. If you're in the Northeastern part of the US, you've got a great opportunity to hit up the Scooter Fest scooter camp hosted at Woodward in Woodward, PA! Presented by Phoenix Pro Scooters and Madd Gear, Scooter Fest runs from August 19th through the 26th.

Following the Scooter Camp hosted at Woodward in Tehachapi, CA back in February, I've received a lot of feedback from parents and kids asking about other scooter camps through the country. I recently heard about this week-long scooter camp hosted at the Woodward Camp in Lake Owen, Wisconsin later this summer. The really exciting thing about this camp is that Woodward's Lake Owen Camp is promoting in on their own website. In fact, they even have a full section of the site devoted to their scooter program, which means that our sport is really starting to get some well-deserved recognition.

Well, if you haven't already heard, there was an unanticipated closure date for registration to Scooter Camp (hosted by Woodward) as of last Friday. That is, they have started telling people that if you weren't already registered by last Friday, then you'll be put on a waiting list and you may not get in. This is good news and bad news. The good news is that our sport is growing more than many people have anticipated and this year's Scooter Camp is going to be the biggest ever. The bad news is that this early closure of registration was unexpected and many people will be left out, some even having purchased plane tickets already.

If you're one of the campers who has already sent in your registration but has not yet received your camper packet, I highly recommend that you call Woodward (during business hours, 9AM-5PM Pacific) and confirm that you have been accepted. If there is an issue, the sooner you can address it, the better! Call Woodward at 661-822-7900.

Just two days ago, a reader commented on our first article about the Woodward Scooter Camp with a question regarding how to register for the camp. As if timed perfectly, Freestyle Scooter Competitions released the sponsor list (see the article image to the left) and the registration form for the camp.

Woodward Scooter Camp is 4 days in beautiful Tehachapi, CA at one of the best skate parks in the world with tons of pros and an army of freestyle scooter buddies! If you've never been to Woodward, I highly recommend it. We took Paxton last year and it was worth every penny. Woodward has a foam pit, a resi-pad, and some of the best facilities you can find for freestyle sports. The staff members are friendly and helpful and the location is remote and secure. Paxton had a great time last year and he's wanted to go back ever since. We will definitely be taking him back in 2012.

If you're an anxious parent, fear not. We were nervous about leaving Paxton at a camp for 4 days, but everything went great. My wife and I even got a mini-vacation out of it since we had to fly him down there. We were able to see Tehachapi, Bakersfield, and Santa Clarita where we spent a day at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
