Ask ScooterDad: I am buying HiC bars but i have IHC forks, do i need to get new forks as mine came with envy kos 2013 complete or can i just put the bars on the IHC forks as is

Answer:

If you have IHC forks and you want to use oversized bars, you'll need to replace the fork with a standard (non-IHC) fork. You'll also need to do one of two things:

  • Use HIC compression with a slit in your bars and an oversized clamp

OR

  • Use full-size SCS compression that can accomodate oversized bars WITHOUT a slit

While some people may tell you that you can add a shim to make your IHC fork work with HIC or SCS, you should not use that as too many shims will make the system unstable.

Ask ScooterDad: I have just bought some oversized bars and I wanted to know if it's possible to put the oversized bars on a regular mgp fork

Answer:

Many MGP scooters come with HIC, which would work with oversized bars. If you're using SCS with your MGP fork, you'd need to go to HIC compression with an oversized clamp and slit in your bars OR full-size SCS (that can accomodate oversized bars) WITHOUT a slit in your bars.

Ask ScooterDad: i have hic and i want to run standard size bars what should i do

Answer:

You can't run HIC with standard diameter bars. It's impossible. They are the same diameter (or close), so one won't fit inside the other. However, IHC is a lot like HIC for standard diameter bars. You'll need a tapered IHC fork to do this.

Ask ScooterDad: i have a fuzion x 3 and i was wondering is it poosible to upgrade to a hic system

Answer:

You could upgrade the Fuzion X3 to HIC, but you'd have to replace the fork, headset, clamp, and bars. That's probably close to twice the cost of the scooter.

Ask ScooterDad: How do I know which pegs will fit with my Axels?

Answer:

You almost always need new, longer axles when adding pegs. You can buy hardened steel bolts at a hardware store or talk to a scooter retailer about longer axles.

Ask ScooterDad: Will the district AL-2 bars fit on a fuzion pro X-3 scooter?

Answer:

I've never tried to put aluminum bars on a threaded fork, so I'm not sure how well it would hold. At the very least, you'd need an oversized clamp. I don't think I'd recommend aluminum bars on a threaded setup. You could upgrade to a threadless fork and threadless headset and then use SCS, IHC, or ICS with the aluminum bars, but that's a pretty expensive upgrade.
